What is an Immigration Psychological Evaluation?

An Immigration Psychological Evaluation is a professional assessment conducted by a licensed mental health provider to document the emotional, psychological, and mental health impact of an individual's immigration situation. These evaluations are often used in cases such as Asylum, Extreme Hardship Waivers, VAWA (Violence Against Women Act), U-Visas, or T-Visas, and help provide credible, clinical evidence to support an applicant's claims. However, it is important to understand that while a psychological evaluation can significantly strengthen an immigration case by offering insight into the individual's mental health and personal circumstances, it does not guarantee that the petition will be approved. It is one component of the overall legal process, and the final decision rests with immigration authorities who consider multiple factors in their determinations.

¿Qué es una Evaluación Psicológica de Inmigración?

Una evaluación psicológica de inmigración es una valoración profesional realizada por un proveedor de salud mental con licencia, con el objetivo de documentar el impacto emocional, psicológico, y el impacto a la salud mental, que una situación migratoria ha tenido en una persona. Estas evaluaciones se utilizan con frecuencia en casos como Asilo, Evaluaciones de Dificultades Extremas, VAWA (Ley de Violencia contra la Mujer), Visas U o Visas T, y ayudan a proporcionar evidencia clínica creíble que respalde las declaraciones del solicitante.

Sin embargo, es importante entender que, aunque una evaluación psicológica puede fortalecer significativamente un caso migratorio al ofrecer una perspectiva clara sobre la salud mental y las circunstancias personales del individuo, no garantiza que la solicitud será aprobada. Es solo un componente dentro del proceso legal general, y la decisión final depende de las autoridades migratorias, quienes toman en cuenta múltiples factores al tomar una determinación.

Why do I do this work?

As the daughter of immigrants myself, I deeply understand the emotional and practical challenges that many immigrant families face. This personal connection, along with my professional experience conducting biopsychosocial evaluations, has shaped my commitment to providing compassionate and culturally sensitive support to those navigating the immigration process.

It represents both the hardship and the hope tied to the immigrant experience. It reminds me why I do this work: to help individuals and families find safety, stability, and the opportunity to live peacefully in the United States.

¿Por qué hago este trabajo?

Como hija de inmigrantes, entiendo profundamente los desafíos emocionales y prácticos que muchas familias inmigrantes enfrentan. Esta conexión personal, junto con mi experiencia profesional realizando evaluaciones biopsicosociales, ha moldeado mi compromiso de brindar un apoyo compasivo y culturalmente sensible a quienes atraviesan procesos migratorios.

La foto que ve arriba fue tomada por mí en Tijuana, Mexico, en la frontera entre México y Estados Unidos. Es un lugar que tiene un significado muy especial para mí, ya que representa tanto las dificultades como la esperanza que acompañan la experiencia de inmigrar.     1. Consultation

      • I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to help you determine whether I’m the right clinician to support you through the immigration evaluation process. This brief meeting is a chance for us to connect, and for you to ask any questions you may have about what to expect.

    2. Booking

      • We will schedule a date and time for your interview, which will be conducted over telehealth (video).

      • I will collect a $400.00 non-refundable deposit fee at this time.

    3. Consent Forms and Clinical Measurement Tools

      • I will send you consent forms and questionnaires to complete before your interview.

      • If you need support to access these forms, please inform me and I can assist you. It is important to complete these forms before the interview, as I cannot conduct the interview without having these forms completed.

    4. The Interview

      • Please note, you will need your own private space to complete this interview via telehealth (video), in order to ensure your confidentiality.

      • I conduct evaluations over secure video. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where you can share your story. I’ll ask a variety of questions to understand your experiences and how they’ve affected you, always with the goal of listening without judgment and making sure you feel heard, respected, and safe throughout the process.

    5. Completion of Report

      • Once the interview process is complete, I will prepare a comprehensive psychological evaluation report. The finalized report is typically ready within approximately 10 business days and can be securely sent directly to your attorney or legal team.

    6. Pending Questions or Changes

      • If your attorney or legal team requests adjustments or additional information for the report, I’m happy to make those changes to ensure it meets the specific needs of your case. I will keep you informed throughout this process so you always know what’s happening and feel supported every step of the way. If needed, I may reach out to you by phone to clarify details or gather additional information. Clear communication with both you and your legal team is a priority to ensure everything is accurate, timely, and helpful for your immigration proceedings.

    • VAWA - $1,000.00

    • U-Visa - $1,000.00

    • T-Visa - $1,000.00

    • Asylum - $1,200.00

    • Extreme Hardship - $1,200.00

      Please note:

    • A non-refundable deposit of $400.00 is required and will be applied to the overall payment. The deposit is collected once a date and time for the interview has been scheduled.

    • After deducting the $400.00 dollars that were collected from the total cost of the evaluation, 50% of the remaining balance is collected a day before the scheduled interview and the remainder of the balance is collected upon completion of the report.

    • The evaluation report will be sent to your attorney once the services have been paid in full.

    • Court testifying appearance is $200.00 per hour.

  • Payment plans are available to make the evaluation more accessible; however, please note that the final evaluation report will be provided after the last payment is received. This may affect how soon the report can be delivered, so planning accordingly is important.

  • If you need to reschedule your interview, I kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice prior to your scheduled date and time. No-shows or late cancellations (less than 24 hours’ notice) will incur a $250.00 fee, as that time has been reserved specifically for you.

  • As a clinical therapist committed to supporting the well-being of the community, I occasionally offer pro bono services to individuals who are facing financial hardship. These sessions follow the same professional standards, care, and process as those provided to paying clients—the only difference is that there is no cost involved. Space for pro bono services is limited, and availability will be announced on my Instagram page. I believe that access to mental health support should not be limited by financial barriers, and offering these sessions is one way I strive to give back and make healing more accessible to those who need it.

  • 1. Consulta

    • Ofrezco una consulta telefónica gratuita de 15 minutos para ayudarle a determinar si soy la clínica adecuada para apoyarle durante el proceso de evaluación migratoria. Esta breve reunión es una oportunidad para conectarnos y para que usted pueda hacer cualquier pregunta que tenga sobre qué esperar.

    2. Reserva

    • Agendaremos una fecha y hora para su entrevista, la cual se realizará por telemedicina (video).

    • En este momento, solicitaré un depósito no reembolsable de $400.00.

    3. Formularios de Consentimiento y Herramientas Clínicas de Medición

    • Le enviaré formularios de consentimiento y cuestionarios para que los complete antes de la entrevista.

    • Si necesita apoyo para acceder a estos formularios, por favor infórmeme y con gusto le ayudaré. Es importante que estos formularios se completen antes de la entrevista, ya que no puedo realizar la evaluación sin tenerlos completos.

    4. La Entrevista

    • Por favor, tenga en cuenta que necesitará un espacio privado para completar esta entrevista vía telemedicina (video), a fin de garantizar su confidencialidad.

    • Realizo las evaluaciones por video seguro. Mi objetivo es crear un ambiente seguro y de apoyo donde pueda compartir su historia. Le haré diversas preguntas para entender sus experiencias y cómo le han afectado, siempre con la intención de escuchar sin juzgar y asegurar que se sienta escuchado/a, respetado/a y seguro/a durante todo el proceso.

    5. Elaboración del Informe

    • Una vez completado el proceso de entrevista, prepararé un informe psicológico completo. El informe finalizado normalmente estará listo en aproximadamente 10 días de trabajo y podrá ser enviado de manera segura directamente a su abogado/a o equipo legal.

    6. Preguntas Pendientes o Cambios

    • Si su abogado/a o equipo legal solicita ajustes o información adicional para el informe, estaré feliz de hacer esos cambios para asegurar que cumpla con las necesidades específicas de su caso. Le mantendré informado/a durante todo este proceso para que siempre sepa lo que está ocurriendo y se sienta apoyado/a en cada paso. Si es necesario, me comunicaré con usted por teléfono para aclarar detalles o reunir información adicional. La comunicación clara con usted y su equipo legal es una prioridad para garantizar que todo sea preciso, oportuno y útil para sus trámites migratorios.

    • Visa U – $1,000.00

    • Visa T – $1,000.00

    • Asilo – $1,200.00

    • Dificultades Extremas – $1,200.00

    Por favor, tenga en cuenta:

    • Se requiere un depósito no reembolsable de $400.00, el cual se aplicará al pago total. El depósito se cobra una vez que se haya programado la fecha y hora de la entrevista.

    • Después de deducir los $400.00 del costo total de la evaluación, se cobrará el 50% del saldo restante un día antes de la entrevista programada, y el resto del saldo se cobrará al finalizar el informe.

    • La comparecencia en corte para testificar tiene un costo de $200.00 por hora.

  • Se ofrecen planes de pago para hacer que la evaluación sea más accesible; sin embargo, tenga en cuenta que el informe final de la evaluación se entregará una vez recibido el último pago. Esto puede afectar el tiempo de entrega del informe, por lo que es importante planificar con anticipación.

  • Si necesita reprogramar su entrevista, le pido amablemente que lo notifique con al menos 24 horas de anticipación a la fecha y hora programada. Las ausencias o cancelaciones tardías (con menos de 24 horas de aviso) tendrán un cargo de $250.00, ya que ese tiempo ha sido reservado específicamente para usted.

  • Como terapeuta clínica comprometida con el bienestar de la comunidad, ocasionalmente ofrezco servicios pro bono a personas que enfrentan dificultades económicas. Estas sesiones siguen los mismos estándares profesionales, cuidado y proceso que se brindan a los clientes que pagan; la única diferencia es que no tienen costo alguno. El espacio para los servicios pro bono es limitado y la disponibilidad se anunciará en mi página de Instagram. Creo que el acceso al apoyo de salud mental no debe estar limitado por barreras económicas, y ofrecer estas sesiones es una manera en que me esfuerzo por retribuir y hacer que la sanación sea más accesible para quienes lo necesitan.
